A First Day Cover has a cachet, a stamp, and a cancel:

stamp, postage: Adhesive paper representing postal fees paid for delivery of mail.
cancel: The postmark on a stamp that indicates usage by defacing it.
cachet: Artwork and text applied to the face of an envelope.
combo: One or more thematically related stamps affixed to an FDC.
dial: Circular portion of a postmark, usually containing the date, city, state, and zip.
event cover: A cacheted cover, not an FDC, prepared as a souvenir of a specific event or anniversary of an event.
FDOI: First day of issue. The day a new stamp was first available for sale.
Killer bars: The horizontal lines of a postmark which cancel the stamp.
